Competition Rules

The Club expect all players to be amenable towards each other.
  • All competitors must be bona fide members of Tillingham Bowls Club
  • Competition entries will be as stated for each competition
  • One day competitions will be played on dates decided by the Management Committee
  • All competitions played on a knock out basis are to be played by the dates given. There will be no extensions for any competition. Games not played because of bad weather must be rearranged within the original end date given for that round. Competitors are advised not to leave games to the last day. Should the game not be played the outcome will be decided by the toss of a coin
  • The draw for the knock out competitions will be made by the Competition Secretary
  • The competitor first named is the Challenger. The Challenger shall offer his opponent at least two dates in different weeks to play the game. The opponent should accept one of the dates. The Challenger will book the rink. In singles competitions the Challenger will arrange a Marker
  • If the Challenger fails to offer dates for the competition, the opponent, after consultation with the Competition Secretary, will be awarded the game
  • In the event of a tie after the specified number of ends have been played, an extra end will be played. A coin will be tossed to decide who has the option to play first. The winner of the toss can decide to make their opponent play first
  • A reserve may be used in team competitions. Reserves must not have played in earlier rounds of the competition. Reserves are not allowed to play in the final unless they have played in earlier rounds for that team. Reserves cannot play skip
  • All score cards must be signed by both teams, and, in singles by the marker
  • Dates for playing finals are set by the Management Committee at the beginning of the season. Players should not enter a competition if they are going to be away on finals day
  • Any dispute concerning competitions should be referred to the Competition Secretary, or the Management Committee if the secretary is away, who’ s decision is final

Ladies/Mens Singles
  • Open to all playing members of Tillingham Bowls Club.
  • Played with four woods per player
  • The winner is the first to 21 points
Junior Singles
  • Open to all playing members that have not won a singles competition previously
  • Played with four woods per player
  • The winner is the first to 21 points
Over Sixty singles
  • Open to all playing members over the age of 60 on the 1st May that year
  • Played with four woods per player
  • The winner is the first to 21 points
Handicap Singles
  • Open to all playing members
  • Each player to have his handicap put on the score card before the start of the game. Handicaps are decided at the beginning of the season by the Competition Secretary and Club Captain and are based on what players have won in previous years
  • Played with four woods per player
  • The winner is the first to 21 points
Two Wood singles
  • Open to all playing members.
  • Played with two woods per player
  • Winner is either first to either 21 points or winner after 21 ends
Ladies Invitation Pairs
  • Open to all female playing members. The lady will choose her male playing partner, who can not be their spouse, father, son, or the same partner as in the previous season
  • Ladies must skip
  • Four woods per player
  • 21 ends
Club Pairs
  • Open to all paying members. Entrants will be seeded into two groups using the handicap list. Teams will be drawn one from each group
  • Four woods per player
  • 21 ends
Junior Pairs
  • Open to all playing members hat have not won a pairs competition previously
  • Entrants will be seeded into two groups using the handicap list. Teams will be drawn one from each group
  • Four woods per player
  • 21 ends
4321 Pairs
  • Open to all playing members
  • Entrants will be seeded into two groups using the handicap list. Teams will be drawn one from each group
  • Four woods per player. Scoring 4 points for shot, 3 points for second wood, 2 points for third wood and 1 point for fourth wood
  • 15 ends

One Day Competitions

Club Triples
  • Open to all playing members. Entrants will be seeded into three groups – skips, leads, twos. Teams to be drawn one from each group. Competition to be played on one day in two leagues.
  • Three woods per player. 6 ends per game
  • The winner of each league to play on finals day which will be 18 ends
2 Wood pairs
  • Open to all playing members
  • Entrants will be seeded into two groups using the handicap list. Teams to be drawn one from each group
  • Competition to be played on one day in two leagues
  • Two woods per player. 6 ends per game
  • The winner of each league to play the final
Grace Duke Memorial Fours
  • Open to all playing members. Entrants will be seeded in to four groups – skips, leads, twos and threes. Teams to be drawn one from each group
  • Competition to be played on one day in two leagues
  • 2 woods per player. 6 ends per game
  • The winner of each league to play the final
  • This day is a charity fundraising day with proceeds going to the charity of the Presidents choice
First day and Last day competitions
  • Open to all playing members
  • To be played as a drive with each member having their own score card. Format is determined by the number of players
  • 6 ends per game
  • Winner is player with highest score at the end of the day
